China has announced a new partnership with Pacific Island countries, pledging $2 million to support climate change efforts and promising more projects that improve lives across the region.
The announcement was made during the Third China-Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Xiamen, China, from May 28 to 29.
As part of the agreement, China will fund 200 small-scale projects this year, send 56 medical experts, and offer 774 scholarships and training slots—30% of which will go to women.
China also launched a joint climate change initiative, while highlighting its support through satellite-based disaster alerts, low-carbon zones, and traditional medicine techniques for resilience.
Unlike Western powers, China promised “no political strings, no imposition, and no empty promises”—a stance praised by Pacific leaders.
The meeting also saw all 11 attending countries reaffirm the One-China principle and reject any move towards Taiwan’s independence.
The event, filled with cultural exchanges and hands-on support, reflects China’s commitment to inclusive development and mutual respect with the Global South.
