Amuwo Odofin, Lagos – Tensions are rising within the Labour Party (LP) in Amuwo Odofin as Hon. George Adegeye, the sitting House of Representatives member, faces backlash over alleged attempts to impose candidates ahead of the upcoming elections.
Sources reveal that during a closed-door meeting with Ward Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Secretaries, and Youth Leaders, Hon. Adegeye reportedly issued a stern ultimatum: “accept my anointed candidate, Engr. Seyi Ipinlaye, and other preferred aspirants, or risk losing his support in the elections.”
The statement has ignited fury among party members, who accuse the lawmaker of high-handedness and undermining internal democracy. Many argue that such imposition contradicts the LP’s core principles of fairness and grassroots participation.
Insiders allege that the Amuwo Odofin LP Chairman, Mr. Obina, remains silent, fearing removal if he challenges Adegeye’s directive. The MHR has reportedly intimidated executives at all levels—LGA to Wards—into submission, leaving many disillusioned.
“He always threatens the entire executive—no one dares oppose him,” a party insider disclosed anonymously. “If the national leadership doesn’t intervene, the party may lose credibility here.”
